The APA-IL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (D/E/I) provides ongoing education forums and opportunities for planners, students and university faculty of different backgrounds to network, share ideas and bring recognition to unique values and perspectives.
Our mission is to promote and increase diversity within Illinois' planning profession, and support the efforts of planners to create more inclusive, equitable and just policies, regulations, and communities in Illinois.

Watch the APA-IL Planning for Equity Program
The October 5, 2017 “Planning for Equity” event, at UIC’s Great Cities Institute, was APA-IL Diversity Committee in partnership with the APA-CMS, the UIC College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs, UIC Urban Planning and Public Administration Alumni, and the UPPSA, and focused on the challenges and best practices for planning in communities of color communities struggling with disinvestment. APA-IL Online Diversity Forum
Inclusive Planning is a forum for planners and aligned professionals to ask and answer questions, and provide resources that promote diversity and inclusion in urban planning. This online forum is sponsored by the American Planning Association - Illinois Chapter (APA-IL) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (D/E/I). The forum is open to APA-IL members and other allied practitioners.
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) now offers a free, self-paced version of their in-person salary negotiation workshop, Work Smart Online. This free online course will give you the tools you need to successfully negotiate and close the pay gap for women everywhere.

APA Ambassador Program
The American Planning Association Ambassador Program is a volunteer activity led by members of the American Planning Association (APA) with the goal of increasing awareness and understanding of the power and value that the planning profession brings to communities. Particular emphasis is placed on reaching audiences of diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
