Associate Planner – Senior Planner (DOQ), Village of Mundelein, IL

Mundelein is a growing suburb of approximately 31,600 people with a track record of getting projects implemented. Focus over the previous 20 years has been on Transit-Oriented Development, right-sizing commercial corridors, community enhancement and beautification, connectivity, transit access, densifying core areas, augmenting housing stock throughout, improving regulatory documents and processes, and attracting modern, lasting developments.

There are avenues for high level professional and technical planning involving both long-range and current planning (plan implementation) activities.


The team works on (1) design and urban design issues, including architecture, landscape architecture, and site planning; (2) economic development outreach to existing and new potential businesses, grants, TIF, and economic assistance agreements; (3) beautification projects such as community gathering spaces, signage, and infrastructure; (4) transportation issues such as communications with Metra Rail, Pace Bus, multi-modal pathways, and traffic; (5) project management and development entitlement utilizing zoning processes, development agreements, plats, zoning, etc.; (6) policy and regulation development; and (7) communications including social media, newsletter articles, staff reports, presentations, and education.


Members of the team are responsible for certain Commission and Board activities such as attending meetings, program creation and implementation, record keeping, presentations, and some budgeting. Work is performed with a reasonable degree of latitude for independent, mature judgment, and action is reviewed by the Director of Community Development through observation, conferences, reports, and achievement of desired objectives.


Compensation:

Starting salary for this position is in a range of $72,997 to $94,714, depending on appropriate position and qualifications. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to advance a step within the salary on an annual basis. The Village offers a generous benefits package, including an Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension, vacation, personal, holiday, and sick time. Other benefits include medical premiums being 85% paid by the Village, and dental, vision, and life insurance being 100% paid by the Village. There are other ancillary benefit options such as supplemental life and AD&D coverage, a 457b plan, and medical/dependent flex plans.
