REGION 1

An article from April 16, 2010 Rockford Register Star about the positive effect that a TIF district can bring to an area to jump start development inside of the TIF and to surrounding properties not in the TIF. In this case, a local community in the area Machesney Park, IL established a TIF district in 1991 and has brought in $31.8 million in private investment. The Village had sale tax revenue of $993,891 in 1992 and now is receiving $2.85 million. This article illustrates, when a TIF is done right and for the right reasons everyone is a winner.
