Planning Manager / Zoning Enforcement Officer, McHenry County, Woodstock, IL

Located 35 miles northwest of Chicago and adjacent to the Wisconsin state-line, McHenry County Illinois offers a high quality living environment with abundant natural areas, small towns and suburban communities, and easy access to all the cultural amenities of a world-class city. The County is seeking its next Planning Manager/Zoning Enforcement Officer. Under general direction from the Director of Planning and Development, the Planning Manager leads the five member Planning Division, which is responsible for both current and long range planning. The Planning Manager serves as the County’s Zoning Enforcement Officer and oversees the processing and review of zoning petitions, subdivision applications, site plans, and building permit applications for zoning compliance. The Planning Manager also managers and conducts long-range planning and special studies.


The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with a major in urban and regional planning, public administration, public policy, geography, or a related field and five to seven years of progressively responsible experience.  A master’s degree and membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners is preferred. The successful candidate will also have knowledge of the laws governing land use and zoning, the principles and practices of land use planning, and be an excellent public speaker. Previous management experience and skills using ArcGIS are preferred. 

The hiring salary range is: $66,425 to $79,710, depending on qualifications.
