The MDRN is excited for our fourth collaboration with the APA-CMS for a session focused on discussions about design in your community. Downtown character and design can mean different things to different people. Everyone has an opinion about what looks good and what doesn’t! How do you get people to the table to talk about design? How do you solicit meaningful input and keep the conversation going?
This session is intended to give planners ideas and tools to engage stakeholders, including residents, boards, commissioners, and policy makers, in conversations about design. Establishing a shared language and vision for the character of a corridor, a downtown, or a streetscape can result in community pride, political support, and a stronger end product. Topics at the session will include outreach strategies to engage stakeholders, as well as graphics and tools to facilitate meaningful conversations about local design.
SPEAKERS
Lesley Roth, AIA, AICP Lesley is an Associate Principal and Director of Urban Planning at Ratio Design. In her 15 year career, Lesley has been responsible for project management, project design and direction, client contact and public process facilitation on a variety of architecture and planning projects. She has experience in a full range of architecture and planning project types and scales. Her professional training and practice include both domestic and international experience with an emphasis on public engagement, livable communities and sustainable design.
