Village of Lansing Plan Commissioner Training 2/26/20

Updated: Nov 4, 2021

The Village of Lansing held a Plan Commission Training Workshop on February 26, 2020. The ten people who attended included six members of Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals (PZBA), the Secretary to the PZBA, the Village Clerk, Village Attorney, and Building Commissioner. The Village requested the training as two members had been appointed recently.

The APA-IL and the Chaddick Institute of DePaul University have provided more than 100 training workshops since the program began in 2011. Michael Blue, FAICP and Bob Sullivan, FAICP were the trainers for the Lansing

session.

The commissioners completed anonymous evaluation forms at the end of the session and noted that the most helpful topics were: conflicts of interest, special use standards and proving a hardship. They suggested including more examples of ZBA decisions at a future workshop.

After the training, the Village of Lansing created an outstanding video that was posted to the Village's Facebook page and website.
