Plan Commissioners and Trustees of the Village of Huntley enjoyed an APA-IL Plan Commissioner training session on Monday, August 14. Attendees discussed the importance of working closely together as elected and appointed officials, how to handle inappropriate public comment, and how plan commissioners can work on issues that transcend borders. The training was facilitated by Phil Green, AICP, Transportation & Long Range Planner for the Village of Hoffman Estates.

Plan Commissioner Training available at the 2023 APA-IL State Conference!
We're excited to be back in Naperville, IL September 11-13, 2023 for our 2023 State Conference. The Conference is also an opportunity for plan commissioners to attend an all-day training. This year's all-day Plan Commissioner Training will be held on September 13th. This training is great for commissioners that have and have not been through our evening training. The training is split into a morning of general information, a networking lunch with fellow commissioners and trainers, and an afternoon session.
New this year, our afternoon session will start with a short walking tour to examine the sites discussed during the morning session, up close and personal. This walking tour will provide the opportunity for you to see how the ideas put on paper become a reality. The walk will be within 1-2 blocks of the Naperville Municipal Center. After the walk, attendees will return to the Naperville Municipal Center and participate in a mock hearing. Topics will include typical items that occur during a public hearing and how best to handle the process. Commissioners will be asked to volunteer to read a script and play the parts, such as developer, attorney, engineer, architect, planner, neighbor. At several points, the audience will be asked to apply their knowledge from the morning session. We will discuss whether certain things could have been handled in a different manner so the commissioners will learn about best practices for conducting a hearing. 2 CM will be offered for planners that would like to attend this afternoon session. All planning officials, boards, and commissions are welcome.
Plan Commissioners pay just $75 for the day or $200 for all 3 days of the conference.
