Senior Project Manager, Metro Strategies Inc., Chicago, IL

Metro Strategies, a policy, planning and public affairs firm, is hiring a senior project manager to work on a variety of transportation and planning projects. This position will be assigned to provide day to day project management, and plan and facilitate client projects on major infrastructure projects, issue advocacy initiatives, and community level projects. This person must have superior writing and communication skills and have a strong ability to direct multiple projects. Experience working with the public sector on policy, transportation and community issues is a plus. Private sector experience is necessary to understand the importance of billable hours and productivity. Project managers must have the ability to travel to client locations throughout the Chicago region and collar counties.

Key Duties:

  • Manage various size outreach, public engagement, policy and planning initiatives.

  • Develop and implement strategic outreach and communications plans and provide effective project communications.

  • Closely and effectively coordinate with the project team and client staff on a regular basis including establishing and adhering to project timelines.

  • Create overall messaging and timeline for implementation.

  • Plan and lead internal and external project team meetings.

  • Develop and implement strategic outreach and communications plans and provide effective project communications with minimal guidance.

  • Plan and implement outreach activities including stakeholder engagement and public meetings for projects.

  • Develop project deliverables including fact sheets, project reports, newsletters and other project-related materials.

  • Direct project associates to assist with project deliverables, such as meeting minutes, project reports, meeting logistics.

  • Review, research and summarize best practices.

  • Identify opportunities to expand our firm’s role on projects or future projects.

  • Conduct data collection and analyze data with the ability to translate information into appropriate communications for target audiences.

  • Write technical reports.

  • Ensure QA/QC is being implemented on every project.

  • Monitor project budgets and schedules ensuring projects stay on track.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with teaming partner firms, client staff and external stakeholders.

  • Bring new and innovative ideas to the project team for project implementation and external relations efforts.

  • Handle all other project management duties that arise.

  • Supervise assigned staff.

  • Assist with proposal development as required.

Required Skills:

  • Good working knowledge of local and regional issues, community and business leaders, elected officials and related agencies.

  • Superior writing and communication skills and ability to translate project technical terminology into clear, concise communications that is easily understandable to the public.

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills and professionalism are necessary since this position works with staff, clients and the general public.

  • Must be able to juggle a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously and prioritize efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Ability to solve problems/recommend solutions to overcome challenges.

  • Ability to be flexible, well-organized and self-sufficient since projects can be fast-paced and deadline driven.

  • Comfortable overseeing and delegating tasks to project associates.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Interest in or previous experience with stormwater management projects a plus.

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Planning, Political Science or the equivalent related fields. A master’s degree is preferred.

Salary Range: $70,000-$85,000
