As part of our dedication to responsible growth, we are excited to announce an opening for the position of Planner I/Zoning & Land Use Planner. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of an exciting Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and the implementation of an award-winning Comprehensive Plan that will guide our city's growth and development for years to come.


Responsibilities:

The position of Planner I, also known as Zoning and Land Use Planner, is responsible for coordination of all development projects under the direction of the Community Development Director. Responsibilities also include the review of development permits and zoning applications to ensure compliance with city regulations; conducting research on land use trends, zoning regulations, and best practices in urban planning to inform policy recommendations; prepare and deliver presentations to the City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, and other stakeholders as needed; and maintain accurate records, maps, and databases related to planning and zoning activities. The Planner I will serve as the primary point of contact for zoning and land use inquiries, work closely with the GIS Planner with research and data analysis; and will assist the Building Division with permit reviews. This position is under the supervision of the Community Development Director.


Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in planning, urban design, landscape architecture, or related field; minimum of one (1) year of work experience. Experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with this position and its essential job functions may be considered.

Salary & Benefits:

Salary range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 plus full benefits (health, dental, vision, IMRF retirement) based on qualifications and experience.
