Management Analyst - Community & Economic Development, Village of Fox Lake, IL


The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O’Lakes system.  The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water. 


The Village of Fox Lake is seeking interested applicants for the position of Management Analyst for the Department of Community & Economic Development.  This position under the direction of the Community and Economic Development Director; coordinates and performs a variety of skilled functions; provides support to the Economic Development Director, and other departments as needed; leads the special use permitting process, conducts some internal zoning reviews, coordinates assigned projects, prepares correspondence, reports, and other documentation; updates and maintains the department’s records and files; assists in administering permit processes;; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions: 

  1. Manages Community Development projects and assists in the administrative functions of capital projects to ensure deadlines are met.

  2. Serves as the primary point of contact for Special Use Permit Submittals.

  3. Responds to various types of Building Department inquiries and/or complaints; provides information regarding departmental operations, services, programs, projects, and policies.

  4. Prepares, processes, and prioritizes work orders received from the public and other Village departments.

  5. Provides administrative support and assistance to the Community and Economic Development Director, other directors, and/or other employees as required.

  6. Schedules and coordinates meetings, appointments, and/or other functions.

  7. Prepares, processes, reviews, and disseminates correspondence.

  8. Updates and maintains departmental records, filing systems, databases, and/or policy manuals.

  9. Assists in the administration of permits and code enforcement scheduling as needed

  10. Assists the Economic Development Director and department supervisors in procuring material/and other items needed.

  11. Assists with all aspects of development projects including permitting, notifications and compliance.

  12. Assists with implementation and use of GIS system.

  13. Responsible for gathering information necessary to develop resolutions and ordinance for board and committee agendas.

  14. Completes technical reports for department head and board correspondence.

  15. Assists in development of departmental budget process. 

  16. Provides critical data management and analysis to support department initiatives.

Education and Experience 

Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, or other related fields. A Master’s Degree is desirable but not required. Two to four years of progressively responsible experience; or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform the essential functions of the job. Requires a working knowledge of office equipment and data processing equipment (i.e., computer software programs such as those in a Microsoft Office environment). Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel is required.


Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug/alcohol screen following a conditional offer of employment.
