Bob Sullivan, FAICP has been a trainer for the Plan Commission Training program since 2012. He recently announced his decision to retire from the role. The commissioner training program, sponsored by APA-IL and the Chaddick Institute at DePaul University, began in 2011 with two trainers and Bob joined as the third trainer in 2012. Always willing to serve, he provided 27 training sessions, including at three state conferences, the Southwest Conference of Mayors, the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission and numerous jurisdictions from Park Forest to Elburn.
An experienced, skilled planner, Bob communicated practical advice to the citizen planners to improve their decision making and their recommendations to the elected officials. The evaluations from the commissioners after his training were always positive. Bob was instrumental in enhancing the presentations, providing photographs and text for the PowerPoint to demonstrate concepts to citizen planners. As a member of the chapter’s Planning Officials Development Committee he suggested changes and helped direct the evolution of the training program.
The Illinois Chapter and Chaddick Institute relied on Bob as a respected resource and will miss his leadership. We are grateful for his contributions to the commission training program.
