Title: Community Development Director

Status: Full-time, exempt

Salary: $130,000+ commensurate with qualifications and experience

Job Summary: The Village of Carpentersville is seeking an innovative, visionary leader with proven experience who will serve as its next Community Development Director.

The Community Development Director will play an integral role in advancing the goals of the Carpentersville community through its updated Comprehensive Plan. This position is responsible for the overall vision and direction of the Community Development Department and its divisions of planning, building permitting/inspections, code compliance, and coordination of economic development.

The Community Development Director is a department head level position and a member of senior management. The Director will lead and supervise department staff with direct supervision of the Assistant Community Development Director, Building Official, and Business and Community Engagement Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional that will anticipate and foster interdepartmental collaboration. The candidate must be skilled at building relationships, having the ability to establish credibility and trust amongst stakeholders.

Requirements: The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field from a four-year college or university; master’s degree is preferred; five years of municipal planning and development; and three years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position will be considered. A valid State of Illinois Driver’s License is required upon hire. American Institute of Certified Planner certification is strongly preferred.
