Introducing the Opportunity & Empowerment Award (new for 2020)
Modeled after the HUD Secretary's Empowerment Award at the APA National Level, this award seeks to recognize the hard work done to elevate, empower, and improve the visibility and agency of low and moderate income individuals. APA-IL seeks to recognize the achievements made across Illinois that empower and give agency to economically disadvantaged communities, including communities of color, which are too often denied the resources and voice necessary to correct for generations of systemic neglect, disinvestment, racism, and violence. We urge our statewide membership to seek out, nominate, and celebrate the hard work being done in these communities, by planners of color, and to those providing planning in creative and different ways that challenge the status quo.
