4/3 - COVID-19 Update for Local Officials

Local officials and agency staff in Illinois need to stay up to date with the legal challenges of COVID-19. Illinois Association of County Board members will partner with Illinois Extension, lending their legal partners at Heyl Royster to discuss the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, updates to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Open Meetings Act (OMA), impacts on employment issues, and worker compensation issues. About the attorney presenters:

Jessica Bell - Jessica focuses her practice on the defense of insurance clients and employers in workers' compensation matters. She joined the firm with extensive workers' compensation defense experience, having appeared before the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission representing employers and insurance companies across the state. Jessica has also spoken with businesses directly to help assist in their understanding of the Workers' Compensation system, as well as the handling of claims within their business. 


Brian Smith – Brian concentrates his practice in the areas of employment law, civil rights, education law and commercial litigation. He is Chair of the firm’s Employment & Labor Practice and he has extensive experience defending employers, including educational institutions, in federal and state courts, and administrative proceedings before the EEOC and IDHR. Brian’s experience representing employers encompasses disciplinary actions, discrimination claims, terminations, wage-and-hour issues, restrictive covenants, employment agreements, and various leave issues.


Andrew Keyt - Andy is Chair of the firm’s Governmental Practice. He advises public bodies in all areas such as litigation, risk management, contracting and procurement, employment, corporate governance, and sunshine laws.
