11/21 - Increasing Our Resiliency to Urban Flooding. FREE. (CM | 1.5)

Updated: Dec 30, 2019

Recently, urban flooding has resulted in billions of dollars in flood losses in the United States. As urban flooding becomes more ubiquitous, strategies and tools to deal with this threat become more important. In the past year, three reports on urban flooding were developed and released:

  • The Growing Threat of Urban Flooding: A National Challenge by the University of Maryland and Texas A&M University

  • Framing the Challenge of Urban Flooding in the United States by the National Academy of Sciences

  • Urban Flooding: Moving Towards Resilience a Summary Report based on the 6th Assembly to the Gilbert F. White National Flood Policy Forum by the ASFPM Foundation (report release imminent).

Collectively these three reports add depth and detail and help frame the problems posed by urban flooding. Each of the panelists in the webinar was involved in the creation of these reports. They will provide their insights into the reports as well as discuss policy, program, and other needs to successfully address urban flooding.

ASFPM Executive Director Chad Berginnis; Gerry Galloway, a Glenn L. Martin Institute Professor of Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland; and Doug Plasencia, Chief Operating Officer for Moffatt & Nichol, will discuss the problems associated with urban flooding and how to lay the groundwork for a resilient future.

This webinar sponsored by APA's Planning Information Exchange.
