APA-IL Faculty Completes 100th Plan Commissioner Training

APA-IL and DePaul University’s Chaddick Institute presented a training workshop for the Village of Homer Glen on February 21, 2019. Previously CMAP, the Chaddick Institute and the APA-IL had co-sponsored a training session for the Village on February 1, 2016. The recent workshop was the 100th session since the program began in 2011. Trainers for the session were Bob Sullivan, FAICP and Marty Scott, AICP.

Six members of the Plan Commission as well as the Director of Planning and Zoning attended the workshop. With a small group, there was time for informal conversation and lots of discussion.

The commissioners complete an anonymous evaluation form at the end of every session. The commissioners listed the most helpful topics as: open meetings, legal aspects and control of hearings. The commissioners added other comments on their evaluations which included:

  • Great workshop

  • I am new to the commission, so I learned a great deal.

  • Presenters used real world examples from their own experiences as staff members.

Thank you to the Village of Homer Glen for inviting us to train your commissioners.

Be sure and save-the-date for the 2019 APA-IL State Conference!

We're excited to be back in Evanston, IL at the Hilton Orrington, September 25-27, 2019. We will be holding an all-day Plan Commissioner Training on September 26th. This all-day training is great for commissioners that have and have not been through our evening training. The training is split into a morning of general information, a networking lunch with fellow commissioners and trainers, a PM mock hearing to put your knowledge to the test, followed by an evening cocktail hour. Stay tuned to the APAIL19 webpage for more details!
