Updated: Jan 2, 2020

Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams was joined Friday 10/2618 by Illinois officials to celebrate FTA’s award of competitive grant funds to improve bus transit service in central Illinois. The grants, from the Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment program, will enable transit agencies to modernize bus fleets, improve service, and enhance safety for riders. Acting Administrator Williams and officials from Connect Transit celebrated the grant awards at an event in Bloomington. Connect Transit will receive a grant of $6 million to buy battery electric buses to replace aging diesel buses in its fleet. FTA announced the award of $366.2 million nationwide in the latest round of funding under the program in September. In Fiscal Year 2018, FTA has awarded more than $15 billion in funding through both formula and competitive grant programs to support public transportation.
