2018 APA-IL Award Winners Announced!

The APA-IL is proud to announce the 2018 APA-IL Award Winners. These outstanding planning efforts from across the state exemplify the practice of urban planning and each stand as an example of ways our members are “Making Great Communities Happen” in Illinois. Congratulations to all!

Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan Town of Normal Comprehensive Plan 2040 This plan calls for complete, connected, and compact development throughout the entire community. Deviating from past approaches where land was divided by individual use, the plan is organized by a new framework of “Neighborhoods, Centers, and Corridors.”

Strategic Plan Award Auburn Gresham & Englewood Quality of Life Planning These inspiring examples of community-driven planning for the Auburn Gresham and Englewood neighborhoods in Chicago centered resident voices and concerns.

Best Practice City of Champaign Parking Requirement Elimination Planners in Champaign share how they successfully eliminated parking requirements in core areas, improving the quality of new development in these neighborhoods.

Community Outreach Award Elmhurst Park District Vision 2020 To create a long-term vision for future priorities and resource allocation, the Elmhurst Park District undertook a comprehensive community outreach process that facilitated over 3,000 community touch points.

Implementation Award Great Rivers Chicago Great Rivers Chicago is the first-ever unifying vision for Chicago’s three rivers – the Chicago, Des Plaines, and Calumet. Of the 26 major goals presented in the plan, 18 are in progress.

Implementation Award Illinois Tollway SmartRoad & Pace I-90 Market Expansion Program Collaboration The Illinois Tollway SmartRoad & Pace I-90 Market Expansion Program proves that large agencies can embrace new ideas and get implemented results.

Healthy Active Community Award Healthy Chicago 2.0 The plan demonstrates how urban planning and public health practitioners and advocates can work together to make communities healthier and more equitable.

Student Award UIC Plan Making Studio In three plans for their Plan Making Studio class, UIC students' ideas for a vacant 77-acre site on the Chicago River embrace equity, urban design, and sustainability.

 
Join these Award Winners at the 2018 APA-IL State Conference

Award winning plans will be recognized during an awards program at this year's state conference: 2018 APA-IL State Conference 4:30 - 5:30 PM Awards Ceremony 5:30 - 7:30 PM Awards Reception & Exhibitors Meet and Greet Wednesday, September 26th Wyndham Springfield Centre Springfield, IL #APAIL18 The 2018 Awards Program is complimentary to all conference attendees. Online conference registration ends on Friday, September 21st so be sure to register now to ensure your seat at the program. If you already registered, but did not add this event to your registration, please email ilapa@i3events.com to have the awards program added. After the Awards Program, mingle with award winners and exhibitors at the meet and greet immediately following the awards. This reception joins you and other attendees, sponsors, and exhibitors while you enjoy complimentary appetizers and and a cash bar. Some award winners will be presenting their award-winning plans at the #APAIL18 Speed Planning session on Thursday, September 27th from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
