2018 APA-IL Elections: Notice to Membership & Call for Nominations

Updated: Jan 2, 2020

Are you interested in running for a position on the APA-IL Chapter Executive Committee? How about a position on either the Chicago Metro Section and Illinois State Section Executive Committees? It is time again to seek candidates for our 2018 elections. Per the APA-IL Bylaws, Illinois Chapter members are to elect a President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer as well as positions for the two Chapter Sections: State Chapter President-Elect Treasurer Secretary Chicago Metro Section Chairman Vice Chairman Secretary Treasurer Illinois State Section Director Assistant Director Secretary Treasurer Training Coordinator

You can find out more about these positions and their responsibilities by clicking here.

The next term of office will commence on January 1, 2018. Terms run for 2 years with the exception of President Elect. Per the Illinois Chapter bylaws, the President Elect will automatically become President immediately following a one-year term as President Elect. The President will serve a two-year term then immediately serve as Past President for a one-year term. Members can begin submitting their names and position statements and desire to run on the American Planning Association's (APA) Nomination Portal. Each officer candidate shall be a member of the Chapter for at least twelve (12) months prior to taking office.

As in past years, the APA-IL is using APA's election vendor, Survey Ballot Systems. New for 2018, the APA is accepting nominations through Survey Ballot Systems' online nominations portal called DirectNominations. When you click on the link to submit your nomination, you will be required to create an account (do not use your APA login and password). Download DirectNominations instructions here.

The deadline for submitting nominations is May 15, 2018. All nominations will be verified by the APA-IL Nominations Committee for membership confirmation and application completeness. After the May 15th application deadline, verified nominees with a complete application will be emailed to schedule a phone interview with the APA-IL Nominations Committee. Should you have any questions about this process, please email APA-IL President TJ Blakeman, AICP.

If you have been considering getting more involved with the Illinois Chapter but not as an elected officer, there are several different committees you can consider joining: Legislative, Diversity, Awards, 2018 Conference Committee, and more. Consider getting involved. It’s a great way to network and give back to the profession! Send your inquiry to Paula Freeze or speak to an Executive Committee member at the 2018 State Conference this Fall in Springfield.
