Plan Commissioner Training at the Village of Hampshire, IL

Updated: Jan 2, 2020

CMAP, APA-IL, and DePaul University’s Chaddick Institute presented a training workshop for the Village of Hampshire on January 31, 2018. The Mayor, six Trustees, the Village Clerk, members of the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Business Development Commission, Finance Director and a resident attended. Trainers for the chapter’s 79th workshop were Dan Ungerleider and Laurie Marston, FAICP.

The group was very engaged and asked a wide range of questions ranging from the trend in residential lot sizes and design guidelines to involuntary annexation and resources available to commissioners. They were also interested in how often the comprehensive plan should be updated and how long it takes.

On their anonymous evaluation forms, those attending listed the most helpful topics as:

  • Importance of the comp plan and how to use it correctly

  • Variation issues and special uses

  • Planning process and planning concepts

Other comments included:

  • “I enjoyed each segment and will use the info”.

  • “All of it was great”.
