January 27, 2017:

7th Annual Urban Innovation Symposium (CM | 6) - Join UIC's UPPSA students as they bring together planning and policy professionals to explore the growing use of technology in cities and the pressure to enact "smart" initiatives. During a daytime session, professionals provide insight into cutting-edge ideas in physical planning, design, housing, and economic development. At the evening event, urban professionals deliver presentations in an informal atmosphere that encourages attendees to network while enjoying food and drink. Free and open to the public. February 2-4, 2017:

16th Annual New Partners for Smart Growth: Practical Tools and Innovative Strategies for Creating Great Communities Conference. February 16-18, 2017:

Winter Cities Shake-up 2017, Edmonton, Canada - Share best practices, experience what’s working in the world of winter innovations, and forge new approaches for improving the quality of life in winter cities. This meeting, which will focus on design and planning, industry and business, and culture. Registration is open!

March 20-24, 2017:

NIU's Center for Governmental Studies Midwest Leadership Institute. Successful professional local government leadership requires knowledge and a skill set centered on the ability to understand individual and organizational behavior. The Midwest Leadership Institute was developed to equip participants with the leadership skills needed to drive for results in the increasingly complex world of local government. Registration is open.

March 24, 2017:

The "ASA-APA Summit – Planners & Aging Network Professionals Working Together to Plan Livable Communities for All Ages" (CM | 3) will be held as part of the 2017 Aging in America Conference. This summit is designed to allow planning and "Aging Network" (AN) professionals to learn about one another’s work, investigate how areas of their work overlap, and discuss coordinated opportunities to develop and implement policies and plans that advance livable communities for all people, regardless of their age or ability. There are two ways for participants to register, (pre-registration is required), for the Summit alone or for the Conference + Summit.

April 3, 2017:

New Perspectives on Growing Local Economies. Looking to change the conversation on growing the economy in your community? Join NIU's Center for Governmental Studies for this one-day conference featuring successful entrepreneurs who built networks of businesses in rural areas and urban neighborhoods by boldly taking new approaches. They will be joined by the Illinois Tourism Director and representatives of supporting institutions from banks to higher education who will discuss their perspectives on the latest in economic development.
