APA-IL ISS Region 5's Planning Commissioner's Training event held Oct 26th

Over 30 elected and appointed officials attended Region 5’s annual Citizen Planners Training Workshop on Wednesday, October 26th at the O’Fallon Public Safety Building. Justin Randall, O’Fallon’s senior city planner, kicked-off the event by providing an overview of planning and zoning strategies for the long-term success of communities. Mike Pierceall, Edwardsville’s zoning board of appeals chairman and SIUE planning instructor, spoke about the importance of running effective meetings and the need all officials to be impartial in evaluating land use cases. Mr. Pierceall also spoke about acting in an ethical manner and ensuring transparency in the decision-making process. The evening was capped-off with a Q&A panel. Ted Shekell, O’Fallon’s planning director, Matt Brandmeyer, Madison County’s planning director, and Mike Pierceall took questions from the audience about pressing planning issues within their communities. The event is sponsored by the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association as part of National Community Planning Month.
