The Chicago Department of Planning and Development (DPD) and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) are working on a Land Use Plan for both Pilsen and Little Village. Through the planning process, the open space and bicycle facilities have been identified as needs for these communities. Subsequently, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) is studying the possibility of transforming about 1.3 miles of unused, at-grade rail in Little Village into a multi-use trail (currently being called the “Little Village Paseo”) that connects pedestrians and bicyclists with parks, schools, and current/future bicycle facilities in Pilsen. The presenters will discuss existing conditions in both Pilsen and Little Village, the Pilsen/Little Village Land Use Plan process and its findings on open space, the draft recommendations of the Little Village Paseo study, and next steps for trails in both communities.
