Chicagoland Transit:  Building and Rebuilding for the 21st Century
As a historically transit-rich city, Chicago has long been defined by its generations of streetcars, subways, elevated trains, and buses.  But as growth continues to occur region-wide, roads become more congested, and infrastructure ages, the city and region will need to consider new and emerging ways to ensure that transit remains a vital part of 21st century-Chicago.  Join five influential professionals in the Windy City’s thriving transit scene as they discuss the old and new in the region’s expanding transit system and how it can impact the city and its future for the better.

SPEAKERS:
Steve Hands, Senior Project Manager in Strategic Planning at the Chicago Transit Authority, will present on one of the largest capital improvement initiatives in CTA’s history – the Red-Purple Modernization Program – which will dramatically increase capacity on the agency’s most heavily utilized rail corridor.  Jeffrey Sriver, Director of Transportation Planning & Programming at the Chicago Department of Transportation, will discuss CDOT’s various transit-related improvement projects in Chicago’s central area.  Charlotte O’Donnell, AICP, Rapid Transit Program Manager at Pace Suburban Bus, will present on the planning of stations, service, and infrastructure of the Pulse Milwaukee Line, Pace’s first arterial rapid transit service.  Yonah Freemark, Manager at the Metropolitan Planning Council, will offer insight into how transit-oriented development in Chicago can help grow our city, revive its tax base, and make its neighborhoods more livable.  Joe Iacobucci, Director of Transit at Sam Schwartz Engineering, will explore emerging trends in transportation and identify where cities and transit agencies are heading in the future.
