Village Planner, Village of Riverside, IL

This position will perform a variety of professional planning, research, and technical activities ranging from routine to varied and complex, in addition to assisting with Economic Development activities. Tasks will include, but are not limited to: responding to questions from the public about zoning, zoning relief processes, reviewing certificates of appropriateness, working with the Preservation Commission, reviewing development plans and preparing reports for Community and Economic Development projects; processing of Special Use, Temporary Use, Zoning Relief and Planned Unit Development requests. This position provides staff support to the Village Board, Planning and Zoning Commission, Preservation Commission and other Commissions as required. This position serves as the staff liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Preservation Commission, and other ad-hoc groups as assigned and required. The planner interacts with residents, the business community, consultants and staff within other departments with an emphasis on providing excellent customer service and will provide technical recommendations to the Assistant Village Manager.

The successful individual will have Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or equivalent required. Two years of governmental planning and zoning administration or similar experience required. Master’s degree and/or American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.

Salary range: $56,000-$76,500 with expected starting salary $60,000+/- DOQ.
