Village Planner, Village of Burr Ridge, IL
The Village of Burr Ridge is undergoing a significant phased reorganization to its staffing structure, and is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team in the valued role of Village Planner. This is a highly self-directed, hands-on opportunity with unique experience available to an entry level position. This position will report directly to the Village Administrator and will routinely communicate with elected and appointed officials, as planning and zoning is a highly-valued service in Burr Ridge. The successful candidate will be well-positioned to pursue senior-level management opportunities after several years in this position due to the depth and breadth of experience available in the position’s listed duties.
The ideal candidate will possess the following experience, approach, and traits:
Minimum of two years’ professional experience in a planning setting; experience in a relevant internship may be considered as part of this requirement
A bachelor’s degree in urban or community planning, public administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree in a similar field and AICP designation are highly preferred but not required
Ability to independently evaluate commercial, residential, and mixed-use development proposals before the Village
Confidence and ability to present, communicate, and dialogue in written and verbal form to elected and appointed officials as the staff liaison to the Village’s combined Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals
The willingness and stamina to work long hours, occasionally outside of normal business hours, including regularly attending evening meetings of the Plan Commission and Board of Trustees
Ability to communicate with the general public on matters of Code Compliance, while serving as the Village’s Code Compliance officer as it relates to zoning matters, including acting as a representative to the Village Administrative Adjudication program
Management skill in assisting other staff with the Village’s building permit process, including acting as the Zoning Administrator
A highly positive attitude in matters of constituent service, including a natural inclination for problem-solving and teamwork in working with both internal and external stakeholders
