Research Intern (Planning and Development), City of Champaign, IL

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The City of Champaign seeks qualified candidates for the position of Research Intern in the Planning and Development Department. This is an opportunity to work with practicing planners and get valuable resume experience that will compliment your studies within your current university or college degree program.

Responsibilities of Position


The position will work on a variety of planning-related projects performed by the Department. As an intern, you will gain experience on projects including, but not limited to: surveying conditions of the community as it relates to zoning and land use, preparing maps and graphics, conducting general research on planning-related topics, assisting planners with citizen outreach and zoning enforcement, and providing general customer service in the Planning Department.


The position is in-person and for up to 40-hours per week, Monday through Friday, for Summer 2024, with the potential to continue as part-time during the 2024-2025 academic year if mutually agreed. The position will begin May 20, 2024.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Current enrollment in a University or College-level Urban Planning or related program.

  • Understanding of the basic components of urban planning and zoning.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.

  • Collaborative team member.


Preferred

  • Knowledge of software applications to create planning-related graphics/maps/videos, such as select Adobe Creative Cloud products.

  • Knowledge of data analysis using GIS.


COMPENSATION:

The salary is $14.00 per hour.
