Villa Park, Illinois (pop. 22,038), a western suburb of Chicago with direct access to downtown Chicago, is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Community Development. Villa Park is a stable community comprised of richly diverse residents from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Villa Park residents are comfortable with a wide variety of housing options including single family and multi-family dwellings that are close to convenient shopping areas. This is an excellent opportunity for the right individual. Appointed by and reporting to the Village Manager, the Director of Community Development serves as a strategic partner with Village Departments and the community. As a Department Head, the Director’s responsibilities include planning, organizing, and administering a full-service community development department with the mission of providing superior services through the department’s organizational structure. The position works closely with the Director of Economic Development and the Director of Public Works for integrated permitting and compliance services. The Director also oversees a staff that enforces municipal code for over 7,000 residential and commercial properties. The Village is seeking an experienced professional with the following attributes:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Community Development, or related field is required.
A master’s degree and AICP certification is preferred. Equivalent training or experience will be considered.
Three or more years of experience working within the municipal planning and zoning discipline is required.
Excellent interpersonal/communication skills and managerial experience in supervising staff is preferred.
Candidates should be community oriented and able to maintain positive relationships with residents, schools (Districts 45, 48, and 88) and the business community.
The anticipated starting salary is between $107,000 - $125,000. DOQ. A comprehensive benefit package includes health insurance including medical, dental, and vision coverage (also available to dependents), life insurance and participation in a pension program.
