Development Services Technician, Village of Hoffman Estates, IL

The Village of Hoffman Estates is seeking candidates for Development Services Technician. This position performs a variety of routine and complex tasks related to the implementation of Development Services goals, with an emphasis on day to day planning and zoning research, code enforcement support, and building permit reviews and processing. This person will perform periodic field inspections for minor permits and to review properties with applications under review by the Department. This technician will also complete Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for the Village. The Development Services Tech works under the direct supervision of the Planning and Transportation Director and general guidance of other Department staff.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Intermediate computer and software skills, including GIS and internet applications.

  • Perform field inspections using approved plans and document discrepancies.

  • Read and interpret site and building construction plans and drawings (at a basic level).

  • Read and interpret procedures, codes and ordinances.

  • Prioritize, organize, document, plan and schedule work.

  • Two or more years of college coursework in planning or related field.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software required.

  • Experience with specialized applications: GIS, web applications and Adobe, Photoshop a plus.

  • Valid Illinois Class D Driver’s License required

  • Must have or be able to obtain Freedom of Information Act Certification


COMPENSATION

Starting rate of $26.8529 per hour ($55,854 annually)

Full benefits including IMRF pension.


HOURS AND SCHEDULE

40 hours per week – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and as otherwise needed to fulfill the duties of the position. (Hours may be flexed to accommodate evening meeting attendance).
