Thank you for your interest in our 2019 APA-IL Awards Program! We're excited to call attention to the best of Illinois' urban planning.

Our awards nomination period has ended.

Important Dates:

  • Awards Nominations due Friday, June 28, 2019. Submit online Nomination Form by 5:00 p.m. CST, June 21, 2019. Supporting materials accepted up to 24 hours after June 28th, 5:00 pm Nomination Form deadline.

  • Project Award Nomination Fees due by 5:00 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2019. Project nominations will not be judged if fee is not paid by this deadline.

  • Award winners will be notified in late August 2019.

  • Award winners will be announced in September 2019.

  • Award winners will be honored September 25, 2019 at the 2019 APA-IL State Conference in Evanston, IL.

Complete a 2019 Awards Nomination in 4 easy steps!

STEP 1: Online Nomination Form

The deadline for nominations is June 28, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. CST (extended). 

Thank you for your interest in submitting a 2019 APA-IL Awards Nomination! All nominations must submit nominations via this form. An email confirmation from will be emailed to you within 24 hours of completing this form. The email will include a link to submit supporting documentation. If you are submitting a project nomination, your email will also include an invoice for the $50 project nominations fee.

  • The nominator must be a member of the American Planning Association (APA) and the agency/entity that originally funded the work must support the nomination in writing. All entities that share responsibility for the completion of the plan/project and deserve recognition for the award must be listed on the nomination form. 

  • Nominations must be located within the State of Illinois.

  • Nominations may only be made in a single award category.

  • Nominations may be submitted for a Chapter Award a maximum of two times.

  • Nominations shall be for plans/projects that are recent, within the past five years. However, nominations submitted in the implementation category may be for be for current implementation results of plan that was originally completed more than five years ago.

STEP 2: Confirmation

Upon submitting the online nomination form, you will receive a confirmation email from within 24 hours. The email will include a link to upload supporting documents.

All supporting documents must be received within 24 hours of the close of nominations, June 28, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. CST.


If you are submitting a nomination for a PROJECT AWARD, your confirmation email will include an invoice for our Project Award Nomination Fee. Note: there is no fee for Student Project Awards or Service Awards.

STEP 3: Upload Documentation

In the email from, you will receive a link to upload your supporting documents (no files larger than 75MB).

  • Supporting documents for Project Nominations

    • Narrative (not more than 3 pages) on why this project deserves this award. Use the Award Criteria, listed in this document, for guidance on Project Awards.  (.pdf or .doc)

    • If you did not provided a link to your project in the online submission form, please upload a copy of the project. No files larger than 50MB please. (.pdf or .doc)

    • Letter(s) of support for the nomination from the agency/entity that funded the work.

    • Logo(s) of agencies / companies to be recognized (.jpg, .gif, .tif, .pdf)

  • Supporting documents for Service Nominations

    • Narrative (not more than 3 pages) on why this individual deserves this award. (.pdf or .doc)

    • Resume of nominee (optional)

    • Letter(s) of support for the nomination (optional)

    • Headshot or photograph of nominee (.jpg, .tif)

All supporting documents must be received within 24 hours of the close of nominations, June 28, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. CST.

STEP 4: Fee for Project Awards

The confirmation email from will also include an invoice for the $50 Project Award Submission Fee. This fee is payable via credit card, via PayPal, or check. Instructions for each payment method will be included. Please note: submission fees must be received by July 5, 2019. (extended)
