Interdisciplinary Project: In January of 2010, the UIC Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) will team up with four MUPP students as part of an interdisciplinary team to work on the water distribution project in Cerro Alto, Guatemala. This is the second team of UPP students to work with EWB. The first team of planning students spent 2 weeks in May in Cerro Alto, helping the EWB team by organizing and holding public participation meetings, by conducting a household survey, and by doing a physical inventory of the village. Angela Larsen, former UPPSA President, is the lead coordinator for the UPP team.

APA Mentoring Program: November 6, 2009 Michael Mays, coordinator of the APA Mentoring program, held a panel discussion at the Friday Forum, at the College of Urban Planning, UIC. Ten UPP students attended, interested to pair up with a professional planner.

Carbon Neutral Campus Architecture Webinar: On November 19, 2009 the Office of Sustainability and UPPSA co-hosted the Carbon Neutral Campus Architecture Webinar.

First Year APA Student Representative: The UPPSA Board is pleased to announce that Sara Amaral was voted as our First Year Representative. The First Year Representative is nominated from among first-year graduate students, representing their interests and acting as a link to assist with transition to the next year's Board. Sara will be working with the current APA Student Representative and will continue on in the APA Student Representative position in the next UPPSA Board.

CMS and UPPSA Co-host January Meeting: The first CMS event will be held at Jak's Tap on January 14, 2010. The panel topics will focus on experience in planning careers from a few experienced planners from profit and non-profit backgrounds. They will share why they chose planning as a career, their pitfalls and successes, their learning experiences, and more. The panel will then be open for questions and discussion from the audience.
