ILAPA News BLAST! May-June Edition Number 79
Illinois State Section Report by Rob Kowalski, AICP

Greetings from the Illinois State Section! The main event for the Section this time of year is the Spring Meeting. This year the meeting will be held on Friday, May 19th in Carbondale. The "meeting" is a one-day conference with a slate of presentations and lunch. The meeting in Carbondale is being titled "Reuse and Revitalization" and features presentations on infill incentives, form-based codes, and brownfield remediation. The day will be capped off with a walking tour of the R Buckminster Fuller Dome given by Carbondale planning legend, Tom Redmond. Make plans to come down to beautiful southern Illinois for the conference and also meet up with your planner friends from around the state on Thursday evening. For a conference program and information on registering please visit www.ilapa.org. Don't miss it, the planning staff at Carbondale have always been great hosts.

One of the goals of the Section is to sponsor more Citizen Planner Training Workshops. These workshops are a designed to teach the basics to commissioners, elected officials or any other citizen planners. A number of workshops have been held over the past few years and the Section has a good template to start from. If you are interested in organizing a workshop for your area, the Section can help sponsor the event and get you started. Give any of the Board members a call to discuss.

Finally, the Section will be sponsoring a limited number of members to attend the Four State conference coming up this fall. This would include paying for registration and other costs. Stay tuned for more details on this as the conference approaches.
