The American
Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) offers the United States’ only nationally
recognized professional planning certification. Initial certification involves
passing the AICP Exam, offered twice annually at more than 300 testing centers
across the United States and Canada.
To become a certified planner and use the AICP designation, submit an application, pass an examination, and
be a fully paid member of APA and AICP.
AICP has streamlined the online application and registration process. For more
information, look below or visit http://www.planning.org/certification.
For those already certified, if you have
questions, please visit
APA-IL's CM FAQ.
In 2009, the Illinois Chapter (through state conferences, CMS events and
webinars) was approved for 206 CM credit hours, which were offered at free or
reasonable costs. Of those, 8.5 were law credits and 5 were ethics credits. We
are proud of our accomplishments in offering a multitude of CM opportunities
that are free or low cost to our members.

You asked, we answered: APA members are always on the
lookout for new and innovative ways to stay on the cutting edge of planning,
and find simple ways to obtain the necessary CM credit required to keep their
credentials up-to-date. Digital Capture is a new way to experience sessions
from the APA’s 2009 National Planning Conference, held in
Minneapolis April 25-29. In Digital Capture, PowerPoint presentations
from individual speakers are synced with audio from their 2009 National
Planning Conference sessions for viewing online.
Users can even earn CM credit by viewing approved
sessions, and completing an acquisition of content survey at the conclusion.
All sessions eligible for CM at the conference are eligible for CM through
Digital Capture. Law credit is available. Digital Capture is affordable and easy to use. At only $40 for each session,
or the complete library for $995, a user can round out all necessary CM
credits from the comfort of their own home, or office!
Looking for guidance on conducting a CM-credit-eligible ethics training
session? APA staff has prepared an
Ethics
Toolkit
to help you get started. The
toolkit contains scenarios, questions and answers, tips for session logistics
and facilitation, and more. The toolkit is available on the
CM website.
A law toolkit is currently under development.
Can't find a CM Provider? Would you like a certain organization to become a
CM provider? All CM providers with at least one approved activity are listed
on the registered CM Providers webpage. We encourage AICP members to check this
list when searching for or reporting CM credits. If you don't find a particular
organization on the list and you would like them to become a registered CM
provider, e-mail APA at
CMproviderinvite@planning.org and APA will contact the organization.
